Everton’s loan move for Chelsea winger Christian Atsu has hit the rocks.
Atsu is a tricky wide-man who has the ability to glide past players and bundles of energy to get up and down the channels.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez was impressed with what he saw of the hotshot in Brazil and wanted to take him next season.
Jose Mourinho had already opened lines of communication with the Toffees this summer after selling Romelu Lukaku to the Merseysiders.
Talks had been progressing well between the two clubs but Chelsea were seeking assurances over the amount of Premier League game-time Atsu would be afforded.
They are believed to have requested a January recall clause be inserted into the deal, allowing them to pull the plug midway through the loan if a lack of minutes becomes an issue.
Everton are still hopeful of getting the move over the line, although Atsu is not likely to be short of offers and the Blues will choose a club they feel offers the best chance of progression.
