Jose Mourinho has told Juan Mata that the door is open for him to leave Chelsea.

The unhappy Spanish star has found himself on the bench more often than not this season and his patience snapped at Southampton yesterday.

Handed a rare starting berth by Blues boss Mourinho, he was replaced by Oscar shortly after half-time and reacted badly to the substitution.

Mata ignored his manager as he left the field before taking his frustrations out on his seat in the dugout and throwing his arms into the air at St Mary’s.

His Chelsea team-mates calmed him down on the bench as his replacement Oscar lit up the game with two assists and a goal of his own in the 3-0 win.

Mourinho maintains he does not want Mata to leave the club this winter, however he revealed he would consider selling the player if he approached the club about a move.

He said: “I want to keep him. I want to keep him. I don’t want him to go.

On the move? Juan Mata

“That’s my opinion, my wish. But my door is open and the club’s door is open too. When a player wants to speak with us we are there waiting.”

Mourinho insisted he didn’t see Mata’s outburst, although the Special One did offer one explanation for the playmaker’s petulance.

Mourinho added: “I didn’t see the reaction, his frustration was because of the result - we have to win.

“If we don’t win this game then the difference to the leaders is bigger. At the end of the game everyone including him it was celebrating the victory.”

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly readying a £30 million bid for Mata, with Inter Milan and Manchester United also monitoring developments.

Tottenham were believed to have made an approach in the summer, however it is highly unlikely that Mata would be tempted by a move to White Hart Lane.
