Clayton Donaldson has turned down a new deal at Brentford to sign for Championship rivals Birmingham City.

Get West London revealed earlier this month that the Blues were interested in the 30-year-old.

However, the Bees believed they were close to agreeing a new deal for the former Crewe frontman, only for Birmingham to up their offer and jump to the front of the queue.

Brentford refused to be drawn into a bidding war for Donaldson, who was offered an improved two-year contract to stay at Griffin Park.

However, the former Hull City trainee has rejected the fresh terms on the table to join Birmingham on a two-year deal instead.

Donaldson scored 53 goals in 155 games for Brentford since his switch from Gresty Road in 2011.
