Marinus Dijkhuizen has confirmed that Jonathan Douglas has been told he can leave Brentford.

The Irishman has fallen out with people in the hierarchy and is now no longer training with the first team.

And Dijkhuizen had confirmed Douglas is now looking for a new club.

He said: “We decided with the team that he's not a part of the club's future so we told him. It's a tough decision but part of the job.

Should Brentford allow Jonathan Douglas to leave?

“Sometimes you get a new contract, sometimes you're out of contract. He has one year but we see no future so we have given him time to find a new club.

“He had a great time here and did a lot of good things for the club. Sometimes it happens.”

He added: “We think it's better for both. We have our way of thinking and he's still a good player but we think a parting is better for both for the future.
