Marinus Dijkhuizen has claimed that English players' are 'vastly inflated' and has described the transfer system as crazy.

The Brentford head coach is keen to recruit at least two more players, with a striker being the priority and a winger following just behind.

While, the Dutchman, who has previously stated his belief that the window should shut before the start of the season, would like his new recruits to be accustomed to the hustle and bustle of the English leagues, European imports represent better value for money and Marco Djuricin is reportedly in London today for a medical ahead of a loan move.

He told GetWestLondon : “I'd like them to have experience in English football. We looked at lot of English players but we can't afford them.

“The wages are too high so that's why we pick more players from abroad. That might sound strange but that's how it is.”

He added: “The price of English players is vastly inflated. I think it's a bit crazy over here with all the money. There's too much money at the clubs.

New face: Yoann Barbet

“The power is with the clubs and also the players. Other clubs have more to spend. We know that which is why we do things differently. It makes it hard in the transfer market.”

Dijkhuizen is leaving the transfer business to co-directors of football Rasmus Ankersen and Phil Giles but, while he doesn't expect a new face in before Saturday's game with Reading, he hopes their work pays off before the transfer window closes at 6pm on September 1.

He added: “We are busy and I'm watching movements. The sporting directors are busy to get some players in so I hope they will fix it. I'm expecting players.

Departed: Andre Gray

“We need a striker and we need a winger as we have less options over there with Gray being sold and Jota injured. We need two more over there.”

During Dijkhuizen's time at Excelsior he would have his squad in place early in pre-season but the squad that reported to Jersey Road in July is vastly different from the one he has now.

He explained: “For me, it is new. It's been a big learning curve these last two months. It's been six or seven players out and six or seven in.

“There are a couple of days to go. It's difficult to build a team. The spirit in the team is good. We played okay against Burnley so we have confidence for the Reading game.”
