Dean Smith insisted there has been no change at the club regarding Brentford winger Jota, who is currently on loan at Eibar.

Glasgow Rangers have been public in their desire to sign him and manager Mark Warburton was reported to have travelled to Spain to speak to the Bees loanee. As the west Londoners haven't given the Old Firm club permission to speak to the player such a move would be considered an illegal approach.

Brentford fans are desperate to see the Spaniard back at Griffin Park but Smith insisted there is no update since discussing the situation before Christmas.

He said: “The Jota situation is exactly the same. He's still our player although he's gone on loan to Eibar.

“He's not getting as much pitch time as he'd have liked and we have a chance to address it on January 1.”

When directly asked whether the club will address it next month, Smith smiled and replied saying: “Time will tell whether we address it then.”
