Dean Smith insisted he isn't frustrated by Brentford's lack of progress in the transfer market.

The Bees have struggled to bring players in this summer, partly due to the tight budget at the club as mandated by Financial Fair Play rules.

The increased wages, brought about by the massive rise in television revenue, has also priced the Bees out of some markets and some Premier League clubs have been asking for £1million to take players on loan.

The Bees have been hoping to bring players in all window but, for one reason or another, they just haven't materialised.

Working hard: Phil Giles

And Smith insisted the club are still working hard at adding to their squad.

He said: “I'm not really frustrated. You can be frustrated when things are long winded. We've been dealt these cards.

“It's not for the want of trying – we've been hard at work trying to get these players in.”

Smith is hopeful of adding to his squad ahead of the game with Sheffield Wednesday but, as time ticks on, it appears to be less and less likely.

He added: “We're looking in wide areas. We're getting closer. These things take time but we hope to have someone in the building next week. We need to bolster our numbers in wide areas.”
