Dean Smith has been laying out his transfer plans as he prepares to evolve Brentford's squad.

The summer of 2016 is expected to be a quieter one at Griffin Park than in 2015 as the Bees made a radical overhaul of their playing and management staff.

And Smith has been speaking to co-directors of football Rasmus Ankersen and Phil Giles about bringing players into the club.

He said: “We have regular recruitment meetings since I've been here – one or two a month. We're aware of where we're at and what we're bring in. That'll continue to be an ongoing thing.”

Advanced midfield would appear to be the priority for Brentford with Alan Judge set to be ruled out until 2017 and John Swift and Sergi Canos returning to Chelsea and Liverpool respectively.

Smith added: “It'll be an area we'll look at. We've got two loan signings going back in Swift and Canos. In wide areas, we need pace and power.”

Toumani Diagouraga tackles Matej Vydra

Toumani Diagouraga's departure to Leeds originally left a hole in the holding midfield role, however the likes of Nico Yennaris, Ryan Woods and Alan McCormack have all impressed since Josh McEachran's second broken foot of the season.

Smith explained: “It's an area we'd possibly consider, although Ryan Woods has done tremendously well this season and Nico Yennaris has been a revelation. You've got Alan McCormack, Josh McEachran so we have competition in those areas.”

The emergency loan window will have gone for next season, meaning teams may bulk up their squads for the longer run of fixtures where they can't bring anyone in, with the exception of a goalkeeper in a crisis.

Smith revealed: “We'll look at the situation as the emergency loan window has gone. It'll be a longer term loan – we'll make sure what we do is right.

Excellent debut: Tom Field celebrates with his Brentford team mates

“We don't want to block the likes of Tom Field and Reece Cole from getting into the squad. We may consider letting them go out on loan.

“We'd like to develop our own. It's good having the plan there where players go on loan.”
