Coventry City have confirmed their interest in signing Brentford midfielder Toumani Diagouraga.

GetWestLondon revealed last month that the Sky Blues had shown an interest in the 27-year-old.

Bees chief Frank McParland said last week that Brentford are under no pressure to sell any of their players.

However, Coventry are hopeful of completing the deal for Diagouraga, who has a year left on his contract.

Sky Blues football development director, Steve Waggott, told the Coventry Telegraph: "Brentford are away on a ten-day pre-season tour to America and their manager is obviously going to review the entire squad now that they have gone up a notch to the Championship.

“I have had discussions with Brentford and there will be a decision when the lad comes back. I have spoken to his agent and, obviously, if he’s involved at Championship level then the player will most likely prefer to stay at Brentford.

“If not then I think there is a great possibility that we could try to do something with Brentford and the player to try to bring him in. But he’s one of the targets on Steven’s list and he’d love to get him.”
