Gary Cahill is reportedly wants to leave Chelsea to boost his Euro 2016 hopes as rumours gather pace that the Blues are set to sign New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga.

The England international has slipped out of favour at Stamford Bridge this season as Guus Hiddink appears to prefer John Terry and Kurt Zouma at the heart of the defence.

A move for American youngster Miazga, who has just one year left on his deal in New Jersey, would push Cahill further down the reckoning and the Blues still have Michael Hector out on loan at Reading.

Miazga has been linked with a European transfer for much of the last six months and is believed to have set his sights on the Premier League.

A fee of £3.5million will see the 20-year-old leave MLS, with the league having to cash in on one of its brightest starlets is his contract dwindles down.

The Blues have been tracking Miazga for a number of months and have moved ahead of a number of Premier League rivals.

Miazga had been with the US team ahead of upcoming friendlies against Iceland and Canada, but US broadcasting giants ESPN claim he has already left, heading to England for a medical.

A senior US international who also holds Polish nationality, Miazga won’t need a work permit.

Cahill only signed a new long-term contract with Chelsea in December but Ramires left the club this week for China under similar circumstances.

The Brazilian was sold for a fee of £25million having penned fresh terms in October.
