Chelsea have confirmed that a deal has been agreed with Sevilla for the permanent transfer of Gael Kakuta.
Kakuta was signed by the club in 2007 before Chelsea were handed a two year transfer ban, later rescinded, for allegedly inciting the youngster to break his contract with Lens, his previous team at the time.
But after eight years at Chelsea he made a mere 16 appearances, Kakuta has finally agreed a deal to move on.
A statement on the club’s website read: “We have today (Friday) reached agreement with Sevilla for the permanent transfer of Gael Kakuta.
“Kakuta moved to Stamford Bridge from Lens in 2007 and enjoyed a fine first season at the club, finishing as top scorer for the youth team and being named Academy Scholar of the Year.
“He made his first team debut in November 2009, coming on as a second-half substitute in a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and featured 12 times during the 2010/11 campaign.
“Kakuta spent last season on loan at Rayo Vallecano in La Liga. In total he played 16 games for Chelsea, five of them starts.
“We thank Gael for his service and wish him well for the future.”
The winger enjoyed six different loan spells in his eight years at the club, including time at Bolton Wanderers and west London neighbours Fulham.
