John Swift would love to see his loan at Brentford from Chelsea be extended for the rest of the season.

The midfielder was brought in under Lee Carsley at the start of October and has impressed in his 14 appearances for the Bees, scoring three times.

Swift will see his loan expire after Brentford's trip to Birmingham on Saturday but he would be keen to remain with the club for the rest of the campaign.

He said: “I'd love to stay until the end of the season but it's not up to me. It's up to Chelsea and Brentford. I don't interact with that sort of stuff,” Swift said.

“I leave that to my agent, Chelsea and Brentford but I hope to keep on to the end of the season and push on and keep winning.”

He went on: "Chelsea are happy. Every player that goes out on loan wants to play. I can't see any reasons to go back and play 21s. I have a phone call from them every now and then so they keep in touch quite well."

Swift was speaking after Brentford's 2-1 win at Reading which saw Ryan Woods and Sergi Canos score sensational goals.

He added: “I thought it was a hard-fought win. I thought the team dug in really well towards the end. I thought we worked hard and deserved a win in the end.

“Sergi's was a great goal and he does it every now and then in training. You know he's capable of doing it. I think he flicked it over two players heads. We deserved a win and he deserved a goal.

“Woodsy has been practising a lot but it hasn't been coming off for him. Everyone gave up on him when they saw he was going to shoot and thought it's going to be a goal kick. It's come off.

“I was in front of it and went straight into the top corner. It was a great goal.”
