Chelsea could be set to shake up their forward line with reports circulating that Edinson Cavani could replace Radamel Falcao .

Italian outfit Fiorentina are thought to have made enquiries over taking up the second half of the misfiring striker’s loan stint in January.

The Premier League champions , who have a season-long agreement with Monaco for the Colombian, will not sanction any deal unless a replacement can be brought in.

Any potential move for Falcao would need to be signed off by his parent club but the French side are unlikely to stand in the way of the former Porto and Atletico Madrid hitman.

Rumours were circulating earlier this week that Falcao was growing unhappy at playing a backup role at Stamford Bridge.

He is vying for a place up front with Diego Costa and Loic Remy and has started just once in the Premier League so far for the title holders.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho was questioned over these rumours earlier this week and admitted he didn’t know if the gossip was true.

Mourinho said: “I don’t know if it’s true because to me he says absolutely nothing in relation to that, and I speak with him every day.

“It’s strange that the press knows something I don’t know and my club doesn’t know. We don’t have any information about this.

“He [Falcao] has to give us more than Diego [Costa]. We normally play with one striker and I go for the performance level. It’s a direct competition, two players for one position, and the best one plays.”

Should Falcao leave this winter, the bookies believe PSG star Cavani will fill the void.

However, any deal for the Uruguayan would prove difficult to complete in January as the player would require a sizeable fee to release him from Parc des Princes.
