Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford has signed a new three-year contract at Stamford Bridge and immediately joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old set the Championship on fire with Middlesbrough last term and will now make the step up to the Premier League with the Eagles.

Bamford scored 19 goals in 44 appearances for Boro as they narrowly missed out on promotion following play-off final heartbreak at Wembley in May.

Bamford’s decision to opt for a top-flight move will come as little surprise to Boro boss Aitor Karanka.

When asked about the possibility of Bamford returning earlier this month, Karanka said: “I don’t think Patrick’s coming.

“He showed everybody last season that he can play in the Premier League and I’m sure he has offers to play in the Premier League.”

Alan Pardew is undertaking an ambitious rebuilding project at Selhurst Park and has splashed the cash by signing PSG midfielder Yohan Cabaye for a club-record £13million fee.

Bamford said of his new deal and the move: "I’m delighted to sign a new contract with Chelsea.

"My dream has always been to be part of this club for the long term. Chelsea have been fantastic with my development and joining Crystal Palace for this season on loan is the next step for me in my career."

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s Kenneth Omeruo has officially joined Turkish top flight side Kasimpasa on a season-long switch this evening.

Kasimpasa retain the right to sign the Nigerian on a permanent deal as part of the loan agreement with the Blues.
