Chelsea are poised to sign former AC Milan keeper Marco Amelia, according to the player's agent, as reported by The Mirror.

The Blues are short of cover between the sticks after Thibaut Courtois was ruled out until December due to a knee injury.

That leaves Asmir Begovic as the only senior keeper available, with rookie Jamal Blackman currently back-up.

But the Premier League champions look poised to snap up ex-Italy international Amelia.

The 33-year-old's agent Federico Pastorello appeared to confirm the move on Instagram.

He posted a picture of the pair with the comment: "Dinner with #marcoamelia (Amelia) to celebrate the contract with Chelsea FC !!! Good luck !!"

Amelia was shown the door by Milan at the end of 2013/14 and had a brief spell with Seria B side Perugia last season.

Meanwhile, Courtois has taken to Instagram to keep Chelsea fans updated on his recovery from injury.

The Belgian stopper damaged ligaments in his knee during training and hasn't played for Chelsea since the defeat by Crystal Palace on August 29.

It is thought Courtois won't return for at least another six weeks but he is making good progress.

He uploaded an image to Instagram on Monday as he continued his recovery in the Hydrotherapy pool at Chelsea's Cobham training facility.

Courtois wrote: "Another good day at rehabilitation today! #workhard #comebackstronger. Starting a next step of rehabilitation in the swimming pool."

The Blues have suffered a poor start to the season, taking just eight points from their opening eight matches to leave them languishing down in 16th spot in the table.
