Ruthless Jose Mourinho is preparing to axe five members of his Chelsea squad this summer after finishing last term without a trophy.

The Special One is planning an ambitious overhaul of the Stamford Bridge squad during the close-season in an attempt to refill the club’s trophy cabinet.

A report in the Daily Express claims five players are on the chopping block as part of a £75million shake-up in west London.

Misfiring striker Fernando Torres, Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku, goalkeeper Petr Cech, full-back Ryan Bertrand and defensive midfielder John Obi Mikel are the names in the frame.

Torres has failed to impress since making his big-money move from Liverpool, while Mourinho allowed Lukaku to spend last season at Everton on loan.

Cech’s place between the sticks has come under threat from Thibaut Courtois and Bertrand has never established himself as a first-team regular.

Out in the cold: Lukaku has had a difficult relationship with Mourinho

The arrival of Cesc Fabregas has push Mikel further down the pecking order.

Mourinho is hoping to raise funds to add to the £50million he has already raked in from the sale of David Luiz to PSG.

Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole will leave on free transfers when their contracts expire at the end of the month.
