Chelsea have allowed Baba Rahman to join Schalke on a season-long loan move.

The Blues full-back departs Stamford Bridge after just one disappointing season in west London after his big-money transfer from Augsburg.

A Ghana international, Rahman, 22, arrived at the Bridge with high hopes after signing for Jose Mourinho on a five-year contract.

However, he failed to impress the Special One and could not enhance his reputation under interim manager Guus Hiddink towards the end of the campaign.

Rahman publicly expressed his unhappiness at the situation and told Chelsea he was unwilling to settle for another bit-part role under Antonio Conte.

The new Chelsea boss was unable to offer him assurances over his place in the side and Ola Aina has impressed during pre-season tours of Austria and the United States.

Rahman has rejoined his former Augsburg manager Markus Weinzierl, who is now the coach of Schalke, and will be hoping to flourish once more in the Bundesliga.

He was left out of the Chelsea squad which were beaten by Real Madrid in Michigan on Saturday and passed a two-hour medical with his new club on Sunday to complete the move.
