Charlie Austin is to stay at QPR this season but the club are risking losing the striker for nothing next summer.

The Hoops were braced for a flurry of late bids for the Englishman on deadline day but have received no firm offers in weeks.

Crystal Palace and Leicester City are both understood to have seen bids of £12million rejected by the R’s as Chris Ramsey held out for his full £15million asking price.

Newcastle, Tottenham and even Manchester United had been touted as possible destinations for a forward who proved himself at Premier League level last season.

Austin banged in 18 goals in a struggling team as QPR were relegated and he has started the new campaign in fine form by hitting four goals in five games.

R’s fans will be delighted to hear their talisman, who has this evening tweeted his commitment to the cause, will remain at the club as they seek a return to the top-flight.

However, the prospect of seeing Austin walk away for free when his contract expires next year will fill them with dread and director of football Les Ferdinand will look to open negotiations over fresh terms.

Meanwhile, Rangers have brought in Watford defender Gabriele Angella on a season-long loan to add cover at the back at Loftus Road.

He said: "I want to help the club this season and do my best here - this is a new page in the book of my career. I just want to play and improve and show the fans what I can do."

QPR are still waiting to discover if winger Matty Phillips is the subject of a late bid from a Premier League club and have been unable to offload Junior Hoilett or Armand Traore on free transfers.
