James Ferry is looking forward to the chance of playing regular first team football after leaving Brentford to join Stevenage for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old midfielder never made a senior appearance for the Bees during his time at the club as he was behind Ryan Woods, Nico Yennaris, Konstantin Kerschbaumer, Josh McEachran, Alan McCormack and Lewis Macleod in the pecking order.

And Ferry elected to join the League Two side in order to gain regular first team football and he will hope to have the same career path as Alfie Mawson. He has spent the past two months with the club, with permission from Brentford, settling in.

The defender left the Bees for Barnsley for similar reasons after impressing on loan at Wycombe and was snapped up by Swansea and now impresses in the Premier League.

Swansea's new hero: Alfie Mawson

“I have had a couple of months already with the lads so I have got to know them and there isn’t any settling in period,” Ferry told Stevenage's official website.

“It has been really useful in that sense so I am just looking forward to getting back from the summer and kicking on.

“The gaffer has been good with me. He has told me exactly what he wants and that is all I can ask for - a clear picture of what I need to do.

“I get around the pitch, I am a good passer and I am a dynamic player.

“I am buzzing. I just want to get focused for next season and try to do well.”

It was Ferry's performances for Brentford's B side that earned him the move to Stevenage.

“I played a reserves game against Stevenage before Christmas and afterwards Glenn (Roeder) told me that he thought I did well.

“Then in January I came up to train for a couple of days so that they could take a good look at me.

“I then played another game against Stevenage in February and after they said the club would like to bring me in permanently and be a part of their plans.”
