Brentford defender Josh Clarke has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The 22-year-old's current deal with the club was entering its penultimate day but the right back has signed a new deal with the Bees, keeping him at Griffin Park until 2018.

Clarke joined Brentford in 2011 after playing park football and turned professional in 2013.

Uwe Rosler handed him his debut in the Capital One Cup and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy before Mark Warburton handed him his league debut in April 2014.

He was a regular under Marinus Dijkhuizen last season before being loaned out to Barnet during Lee Carsley's reign.

Since returning under Dean Smith, Clarke has made himself a valuable understudy to Maxime Colin and impressed in the final games of the season.

Smith told the club's official website: “I’m pleased that a new contract for Josh has been sorted. He finished last season really well and his role now is to carry that on.

“He has to continue developing, learning and to continue the work ethic that has seen him rewarded with a new contract.”
