Dean Smith is looking to add to his squad in January and suggested that attacking midfield is an area of priority.

Currently, the Bees have Alan Judge playing there alongside Chelsea and Liverpool loanees John Swift and Sergi Canos repectively.

And the Brentford head coach is keen to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window.

He said: “We're looking to bring people in and strengthen the squad. We feel there are certain areas that we need to strengthen and improve the team. It'd be wise not to give out names when we're talking to people.

“We've got two loans in Swift and Sergi Canos (who both extended their loan spells for the rest of the season). We may look in those areas. There are a lot of players out there and a lot of calls I have to field at this time of year.”

Deals extended: Sergi Canos and John Swift

The opening exchanges of the January window have seen Brentford trying to keep hold of their best players but Smith has still been working on adding strength to the squad.

He added: “We have regular recruitment meetings and have targets in place but you don't want to lose your best players.”

Brentford play host to Burnley tomorrow night and the Clarets have had bids for Alan Judge and James Tarkowski rejected so far this month.
