Brentford win the Internet with way they announced signing of Leeds, Villa and Reading target

Bees supporter Josh Mahoney had put on Twitter last week that, if Watkins joined the club, he would buy any fan that liked that tweet a pint

Brentford won the Internet with the way they announced the fact that long-term transfer target Ollie Watkins had joined the club.

Bees supporter Josh Mahoney had put on Twitter last week that, if Watkins joined the club, he would buy any fan that liked that tweet a drink.

And he was made to regret that tweet as the Bees signed the Exeter striker on a four year deal.

The club, then, having seen the comment invited Josh to go to the bar and to buy them a Carlsberg.

Watkins, who came through the ranks at Exeter, will make his debut against Southampton on Saturday in a pre-season friendly.

Head coach Dean Smith was delighted to get a player he had been keen on signing for the past 12 months.

He added: “We believe that Ollie is a player with an awful lot of potential. He showed last season what great talent he has and he has developed into a goal scorer.

“There is more development to come and we believe we can bring that out of him. I am very pleased that he is now playing for Brentford.”
