As far as Brentford head coach Dean Smith is concerned, Jota will be a Brentford player next season.

The popular wing wizard is, technically, out of contract at the end of this season but the Bees have an option in their favour to keep the Spaniard at Griffin Park until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

The Bees are in talks with Jota's representatives over remaining in west London and, while Smith wouldn't give too much away, he believes the 25-year-old will remain a Bee next season.

Jota worries the Derby defence

He said: “There are things going on but I can't say much. Jota wants to stay, the option is in the club's favour so as far as I'm concerned, Jota will be a Brentford player for next season.”

Jota has made no bones in the past about the fact he is loving life at Griffin Park but when asked about his contractual situation he has always preferred to remain quiet.

The Spaniard told GetWestLondon: “I don't want to speak about future. My agent always worries about these things. I only want to play. I don't know anything.”
