Jonathan Douglas has been told he can leave Brentford this summer, just five months after agreeing a new deal.

The midfielder was seen as an ally of Mark Warburton but his contract extension was announced soon after the Bees confirmed the manager would leave the club at the end of the season.

The Irishman is one of several options in the midfield but, with the signing of Josh McEachran it appears his time as a first-team regular are set to come to an end.

Toumani Diagouraga, Marcos Tebar, Alan Judge and Alan McCormack can also fill in in the holding midfielder role in Marinus Dijkhuizen's new-look side.

Douglas, who started all bar two league games last term, is understood to have fallen out with members of the club's hierarchy over the direction the club was heading in.

Tony Craig left Brentford earlier this month and returned to boyhood club Millwall after the Bees agreed to cancel his contract.
