Brentford are still working on bringing new faces into the club but are unlikely to have anyone in before Tuesday's game against Leeds.

The club have been keen to add one or two new faces in January but have, so far, struggled to attract the players to west London.

But head coach Dean Smith insists the club are doing their utmost before the window closes at 11pm on February 1.

He said: “We're working on players coming in and will continue. There won't be players coming in before Saturday.

“At the moment it would be unlikely they'd be in for Leeds but the transfer window changes very quickly.

Missed target: Manchester City youngster George Evans joined Reading.

“We've got to have our finger on the pulse to change with it. We're working to get deals done before the window closes.”

Smith confirmed he and Brentford were dealt a blow as Manchester City midfielder George Evans plumped for a move to Reading over Griffin Park, despite playing with the head coach during his time at Walsall.

The Bees boss added: “George was a player I'd spoken to as I'd loaned him at Walsall from Manchester City. He was a player I liked.

“He was in discussions with Reading and he decided to go there. It would have been nice to sign George who had a lot of potential.

“We move on to the next one. I think it was George's decision to go to Reading.”
