Brentford have agreed a €3million deal to sign FC Twente defender Andreas Bjelland, which would break the club record.

The 26-year-old was impressive in the Dutch league last season, making 29 appearances for the club.

The 21-times capped Danish international predominantly plays as a central defender but also can be deployed at full back.

The Bees are likely to confirm the deal on July 1, when the transfer window officially opens but the defender will be able to link up with his new team-mates straight away.

So far this summer, Brentford have signed Akaki Gogia, Frenchman Yoann Barbet, former Morecambe midfielder Ryan Williams and are also set to confirm a deal for Konstantin Kerschbaumer.

They will link up with new head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen, who will be introducing himself to the squad on Wednesday.
