Brentford have confirmed the departures of Nick Proschwitz and Tommy Smith when their contracts come to an end.

Proschwitz joined the club from Hull on the eve of the season and scored on his first start in the League Cup against Dagenham & Redbridge.

He scored one league goal in the 2-0 win at Rotherham but was limited to a substitutes role and subsequently loaned out to Coventry.

Released: Tommy Smith

Smith, who has previously played for QPR, signed on a free transfer after impressing on trial and scored a late equaliser against Charlton on the opening day of the season.

He was confined to starts in the cups, making only one in the league, while he made 27 appearances as a substitute in the Championship.

Co director of foobtall Phil Giles told the club's official website: “We spoke with Tommy and Nick last week and informed them of our decision.

“No-one can doubt the commitment they both showed to Brentford FC during their time here.

“But we have to make decisions about the squad for next season and we do not see them as part of it.

“On behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to thank them for all their efforts over the past ten months.”

Returning to Tottenham: Alex Pritchard

Betinho (Sporting Lisbon), Chris Long (Everton), Alex Pritchard (Tottenham) and Jon Toral (Arsenal) have returned to their parent clubs.

Richard Lee and Kevin O'Connor have retired from playing with the latter taking up a coaching role at the club.

The remaining contracted players, including those who ended the season on loan, will return to pre-season training in July and will have the chance to impress the new head coach.

Chance to impress: Brentford players will return in July

Giles added: “We have spoken to all the contracted players and made it clear to them we saw them as part of the immediate future at Brentford FC.

“Things can change quickly in football but it is our intention that all will return to pre-season training.

“They will be given a chance to impress the new head coach.

“This group have been fantastic for the club this season and have proven how good they can be in the Championship.

“With a few additions we hope we can have an even better season in 2015/16.”
