Rangers midfielder Lewis Macleod is on the verge of a £1million move to Brentford after being recommended by David Weir.

Former Gers defender Weir, assistant manager at Griffin Park, has made several checks on the 20-year-old and passed on his findings to Bees boss Mark Warburton.

Macleod is understood to be in west London this morning to undergo a medical and complete the necessary paperwork to seal his switch from Scotland.

He was named Scottish Professional Football League's young player of the month for November and has been a star performer at Ibrox this term.

Cash-strapped Rangers are keen to sell to generate funds as they battle to survive, with Macleod’s move officially going through when the transfer window opens on January 1.
