Brentford are open to offers for midfielders Alan McCormack and Sam Saunders with the Bees duo struggling for game time.

Neither player has featured for the west Londoners since October due to calf and hamstring injuries respectively. McCormack also was handed a five match ban for comments made to a female assistant referee but his injury meant he'd have missed those games as well.

The pair are out of contract at the end of the season and, with neither playing at this current time, a parting of the ways seems inevitable.

And co-director of football Rasmus Ankersen revealed that if the pair want to leave then the club would be willing to allow them to depart as long as the right offer came in.

He said: “Both of them are not playing regularly. We look at all situations. We have a constructive conversation and dialogue with them.

Alan McCormack

“If they want to leave, the club is willing to let them go and someone makes the right offer then they'll go. We have conversations with all players that are not playing.

“All players want to play and if we have a player we don't think is going to get a lot of game time then it might make sense for the club to send them on loan.”

Both McCormack and Saunders were quick to depart after Brentford thrashed Eastleigh by five goals to one and Brentford head coach Dean Smith knows the pair are frustrated at a lack of game time.

He said: “I'd want my players to be angry at not getting pitch time. The problem Macca's had is niggling injuries.

Sam Saunders

“He's not been available as much as I'd like or he'd have liked. He's not played a minute since the last Newcastle game.”

He added on Saunders: “He's been frustrated. He ended last season really well for us. He was coming on as sub and has had less pitch them then. You want to play and I empathise with his plight.”
