Alan McCormack is keen to remain a Brentford player beyond the end of this season and says he has to play five more games to earn a new contract.

The midfielder has been out injured for the past two months but returned to action against QPR last weekend.

The Irishman sees his contract at Griffin Park expire at the end of the season but he revealed that he is keen for it to be extended.

McCormack said: “I think everybody knows how I feel about the club. It's down to them. I have five games to play (to automatically trigger a one-year extension).

“I'm very happy to stay, whether it's now or the end of the season. I've made it clear from the start that I want to stay.

Taking his coaching badges: Alan McCormack

“I'm doing my coaching badges. I think it's a great setup here with the youth team side etc. It's a great place to be at.”

Dean Smith, when asked about the situation regarding McCormack, gave no clues as to where the Brentford midfielder's future lay.

He said: "Alan has started two games for me. It would have been three but dropped out early against MK Dons. It's been a tough job for him to get back in but the more he plays, the more I'll get to know him as a player and we'll have those discussions later."

McCormack has made 19 league appearances for the Bees this season and a further two in cup competitions.
