Brentford will monitor Sergi Canos during the summer, with an eye on bringing him back to the club.

The Bees know that the final decision rests with Liverpool and manager Jurgen Klopp but will look to ensure they are at the front of the queue.

The Spanish midfielder seems destined to leave this summer as it is understood the £4million-rated 19-year-old has told the club he wants to leave after contract negotiations hit an impasse.

There has been considerable interest from clubs in Portugal the player is keen for a permanent move to London, with Watford and QPR also interested.

Liverpool have put a £4million price tag on the player in a bid to deter suitors and bring the market for Canos' services back to them - the asking price would put the Bees out of the market.

And Brentford co-director of football Phil Giles will be speaking to his counterparts at Anfield to keep tabs on the situation.

He said earlier this month: “Jurgen Klopp will make a decision about what he wants to do with his squad. We’ll keep in touch and see where they want to take that.

“If there’s an opportunity to bring him back I’m sure that’d be a positive move for the fans, players and staff.

“He’s not only a great player and getting better. He’s a great person, enthusiastic character. He’s great around the place and great with the fans.

“There’s not a bad thing you can say about Sergi. He’s fantastic and you forget he’s 19 at times.”
