Brentford will be looking to sign wide men and forwards during the summer transfer window.

After Alan Judge's injury and, with John Swift and Sergi Canos set to return to Chelsea and Liverpool respectively, the Bees have a lack of attacking talent available to them going into the off-season.

And it is these areas that appear to be what Smith considers to be the priority to give Brentford the best chance of winning promotion.

Head coach Dean Smith said: “We've been looking in wide areas and forward areas. We have to have our finger on the pulse in all areas. It's an ongoing thing and will continue to be so.”

One thing Brentford must try and do is extend the contracts of goalkeeper David Button and left back Jake Bidwell.

Smith added: “I'm aware they're out of contract and one we'd look to get things done if we could. We'd all like to see them stay.

Sign him up: David Button

“We would like to get things done but it's down to the players and the co-directors of football. If it can't be done we'll have to cast our eye further afield as well.

“Their consistency has impressed me. What you look for is consistency. You know what you're going to get as a minimum but also scope for improvement.

“If you're getting seven, seven and a half our of 10 with scope to improve, that's fantastic.”

The Bees' transfer fund will be given a boost, which GetWestLondon understand to be worth more than £3million, were Burnley to win promotion and Smith wished Sean Dyche's side well.

He explained: “I've not seen claret and blue scarves about. It'd be a nice bonus for us if they did. I'm sure there are sell-ons with both James Tarkowski and Andre Gray.”
