Brentford and Fulham are tracking out of contract Barnsley midfielder Josh Scowen, according to a report in The Sun.

The 24-year-old rejected a new deal at Oakwell and is set to leave the Yorkshire side with the west Londoners keen to bring him to the club. Midlands duo Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen on the midfielder.

Scowen has made 118 appearances for Barnsley - 44 last season - since joining from Wycombe Wanderers in January 2015 on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

And Tykes boss Paul Heckingbottom is resigned to seeing his star player leave the club in the summer, with reports suggesting Scowen wants a contract in the range of £9,000 a week.

"We know that, financially, he may be able to get a better deal from another club and he is waiting to see what is out there," Heckingbottom told the Barnsley Chronicle earlier this month.

"It's not definite he will leave us but we can't be held to ransom and we can't delay our plans by waiting for him.

"I am planning without him then, if we get him, it is a bonus."

The Fulham and Brentford target scored three goals in those 44 appearances for the Tykes last season.
