Brentford are continuing their policy of looking to sign the cream of the crop from the lower leagues by looking at Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor.

The Bees spent last summer scouring the European markets with varied success but have clearly decided to supplement their squad with English talent this summer.

The 26-year-old impressed for the Pirates last season, scoring 28 goals in 50 games in all competitions and is available on a free transfer with his contract expiring at the end of the month.

That included a hat-trick against Wycombe as Rovers won promotion to League One a year after returning to the Football League and led to comparisons with Leicester hotshot Jamie Vardy.

In their Conference play-off winning season, Taylor scored 20 goals in 49 appearances.

Cheeky: Scott Hogan makes it 2-0

The Bees currently have Scott Hogan, Lasse Vibe and Philipp Hofmann available in the striker department.

Hogan returned from two cruciate ligament injuries last term and scored seven goals in 163 minutes.

Vibe impressed in patches during his first season but also went through spells where he flattered to deceive.

Hofmann, on the other hand, seemed to struggle to fit into the way the club wanted to play as the German suited balls played into the air more.
