Brentford have completed the £1million signing of Ryan Woods from Shrewsbury.

The Bees moved for the full back turned midfielder after struggling in that position in the first weeks of the season.

The 21-year-old has made 90 league appearances for the Shrews, scoring once but has been dubbed the 'Ginger Messi' by those in Shropshire.

Head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen told the club's official website: “Ryan Woods is dynamic holding midfield player. He is a talented young English player and we can help him develop and move on to the next level at Brentford.

“Ryan plays with his head up and looks to attack. He tries to pass the ball forward and that fits in well with the way we want to play football.”

Phil Giles confirmed Woods will be the last man in through the Griffin Park door.

He said: "I am delighted that we have managed to sign Ryan as our last transfer of the summer. He is an extremely talented player who can play at a very high level as his career develops.

“We welcome Ryan to Brentford and look forward to him being available for our next game at Leeds."
