Phil Giles is hoping that Brentford can convince Jake Bidwell and David Button to extend their contracts with the club.

The Bees captain and goalkeeper are out of contract next summer and GetWestLondon revealed negotiations have started with both their goalkeeper and their captain.

And the co-director of football is hoping that the club have been able to sell their vision to the duo, especially in light of the strong run of form at the end of the season.

He said: “They’re both top class players. We like them as players and people. They’re good to have around the club. We appreciate everything they’ve done for the club over the last few seasons.

“I’d like to think they’ll have liked what they’ve seen. I hope they’ve seen the upward trajectory has been maintained and they’ve been positive about that and we can base our conversations on that moving forward.

“We’ve got to sell the club to them. We can’t expect automatic loyalty. We’ve got to sell a vision to them and be in a position to fulfil that vision and that includes the new stadium and where the club can get to in their careers. I know we’ve got to sell that to them and they’ve got to buy into it.”

Josh Clarke

Josh Clarke’s future, though, will be more pressing with the young right back coming into the last weeks of his contract.

And Giles is hopeful Brentford can agree a new deal with a promising player.

He added: “We’re talking to him and his agent. We’ve made an offer. Hopefully we can get something sorted.

“We’ll see how we get on and we’re hoping for a positive outcome.”
