Harlee Dean believes the key thing Brentford need to do to challenge for promotion next season is to have a good summer transfer window.

The Bees finished in 10th place with 64 points, 16 adrift of sixth placed Fulham and 29 shy of second placed side Brighton.

And, in order for the west Londoners to thrive in the summer, the captain believes that good recruitment, while holding onto their best talent is vital, which would include Dean who is out of contract in 2018.

He said: “I think we've got to recruit well in the summer and add a few bodies as well as keep everybody here as well.”

Consistency is another area that Brentford will need to improve on next season after they picked up just four points from a possible 18 against the relegated sides.

And the skipper knows that that was an area that needed improvement.

Dean added: “At times we've been 10s and at times we've been twos. We finished 10th out of 24 and that's probably a fair reflection of the team.”
