Brentford are working to extend Jota's contract at Griffin Park, Dean Smith has intimated.

The Spaniard has been linked with a host of clubs during the summer window including Burnley, Everton and West Ham.

The Bees triggered the one-year extension in Jota's deal at the start of May but, with 12 months left, they face a choice of either agreeing a new contract, selling him this summer, or risk seeing him leave for nothing next year.

The Brentford hierarchy met today (Thursday) to discuss a host of issues regarding recruitment and Smith has made it clear that he wants Jota to stay.

“It's one I'll discuss with Phil and Rasmus. We want to keep him at the club as long as possible, Smith said.

“He showed what we was about in the last half of the season and he was magnificent. It'd be good if we can keep him longer for the football club.”

Jota scored 12 goals after he returned to the club from Eibar in January this year.
