Brentford boss Mark Warburton is unhappy over Wigan Athletic’s pursuit of star midfielder Adam Forshaw.

The Bees rejected a bid from the Latics for the 22-year-old on Monday, as revealed by GetWestLondon.

Uwe Rosler worked with Forshaw at Griffin Park and is keen to bring the former Everton youngster to the DW Stadium.

But Warburton insists the Liverpudlian is staying put in TW8.

“Whatever we do I would like to think we do it in a professional manner," he told BBC London.

“If clubs are going to act in [a different] manner I can’t control that, but I would like to think we would never lower ourselves to act in such a fashion.

“I think the club concerned and their staff need to look at themselves, that’s for sure, and do things in the right way.

High five: Forshaw celebrates with team-mate Jonathan Douglas

“Adam still has another two years to run on his contract. We have made it very clear how much we value Adam.

His recent comments were very supportive and he’s looking forward to coming out and playing.

“He’s the League One Player of the Year. Why would we sell to a rival club?”

Forshaw made his return from an ankle injury in Tuesday night’s 4-0 friendly defeat by Osasuna.

And Warburton his hopeful he will be fit for the big Championship kick-off against Charlton on August 9.

He added: “The plan was always for him to play a half last night, an hour on Saturday and hopefully be fit for the first game of the season against Charlton.”
