Dean Smith has, once again, insisted that Brentford have received no bids for any player.

Jota has been linked with a host of clubs, including West Ham, Everton and Swansea among others but, despite being told a bid was due a month ago, none have been forthcoming.

Rico Henry (Hull), Harlee Dean (Sheffield Wednesday), and Ryan Woods (Sunderland) have all been linked at times with moves away from Griffin Park but all are set to remain in west London, for the time being.

Smith said: “I always look forward to the end of the transfer windows closing. It's a great period of my life as a manager and head coach.

“There's always going to be speculation when we have quality players but we've had no bids for anybody.”

If a player were to leave, though, then it would be on Brentford's terms.

Smith added: “It's always been the case. We've been very consistent in the message we've sent out there.”

Dean, Jota and Lasse Vibe are all out of contract at the end of the season and Smith is keen to see the three of them stay in TW8.

He said: “The club have spoken to the representatives of all three. I've passed on my views to the directors of football.

“I enjoy working with all three of them. They're talented players and I'd like to keep them here and it's the case of the directors of football and their representatives sorting something out.

“I know all players want to play at the highest level that they can. There's got to be an agreement between the player, the club that wants the player and the club that's selling.”

Given the propensity for players at Brentford to be told about imminent bids, some have suggested confiscating their phones but that won't be happening in their Sheffield hotel.

Smith said: “It's something you can't do. They've all got agents and I'm guessing they're phoning other clubs.

“The good thing is we make it a good environment for players to flourish and develop. They're never in a rush to get out of here. That's something we can be applauded for.”

The head coach also admitted that, unless players leave, then there will be no further incomings at Griffin Park.

“I've got to let enough people down when I name the team. Adding to that would make it difficult for me,” Smith confirmed.

“We would have to react if bids were coming in for players but we're pleased with the squad we've got.”
