Brentford head coach Dean Smith is 'sure' the Bees' co-directors of football are working towards activating the option on Jota's contract.

The Spaniard has been in sensational form for the west Londoners since returning from Eibar, scoring seven times and setting up four more.

Jota is, technically, out of contract at Griffin Park this summer but the club have an option for a further year and fans are keen for that to be activated sooner rather than later or, better yet, a long term contract agreed.

When pressed on the situation, the Brentford head coach said: “There's an option for the football club. I'm sure the directors of football will be on that.”

Jota

Jota was paid the ultimate compliment by Nottingham Forest fans on Tuesday night as they applauded the Spaniard when he was withdrawn in the closing stages.

Smith added: “It certainly is a compliment and it shows the level he's at at the moment.

“He's a terrific, terrific player and a pleasure to have in the dressing room and he's working hard for the team as you saw him defending as well at times at Forest.”
