Brentford have signed young Chelsea midfielder John Swift on a one month youth loan.

The 20-year-old has come up through the ranks with both Chelsea and England over the past few seasons.

He made his Blues debut in 2014, replacing Eden Hazard in Rafael Benitez's final game in charge at Cardiff.

Blue: John Swift

Last season saw him on loan with Rotherham United and Swindon Town, making four Championship appearances for the Millers and 20 League One appearances for the Robins.

Swift has been involved in the England set up since 2010, playing for England under-16s all the way up to under-20s.

Brentford head coach Lee Carsley told the club's official webste: “John played against us for Chelsea’s Development Squad level in August and was very good. He has lots of energy and can play in various positions. He likes to shoot, which is something that we want in the team.

“John is a really exciting player and it is great that Chelsea feel this is the right environment for him to develop.”

Co-director Phil Giles believes the attacking midfielder has a big future ahead of him and will give Carsley some more options going forward.

He explained: "I'm delighted that we've persuaded John to join us on loan for the next month. He is a talented young player with a big future ahead of him.

“After discussing the situation with Lee we decided it was a good solution to bring a loan player in at this time, as John will bring some additional attacking qualities to our midfield."

He goes straight into the squad for Saturday's trip to Derby and the ever-growing rank of Chelsea players out on loan.
