Luke Rooney will not be the next new arrival at AFC Wimbledon, according to Neal Ardley.

The Dons boss quashed rumours last night linking the former Swindon winger with a move to Kingsmeadow after forward Luke Moore was tipped to join Gillingham.

Ardley admitted there had been contact with Rooney in recent months but denied a move was on the cards and insisted Moore was going nowhere.

He said:  “We had Luke Rooney in on trial when he got released from Swindon. We had a look at him in December to see where he was at and he has trained with us through January.

“Ultimately he has got an ankle injury and his fitness levels are not quite where they need to be so that one is looking unlikely.

“Luke Moore is our player and as far as I’m aware he is not going anywhere.

“He plays in the hole better than most players in our team. I know he scored on Saturday, but he looked like he was lacking in confidence and I want to restore that because he is an important player for us.”
