Borussia Mönchengladbach want to keep Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.

The 19-year-old defender is on loan in the Bundesliga outfit until the summer of 2017.

Christensen scored his first two goals for the German side in Friday’s rout of Werder Bremen.

Nicknamed The Gazelle for his playing style and already a full Danish international, Mönchengladbach have been suitably impressed by the Blues youngster.

He has been an ever-present since the arrival of manager Andre Schubert in September and Borussia’s sporting director is looking strike a deal for the centre-back.

"Our intention is to try and get into talks with Chelsea in the summer," Eberl told kicker, while confirming Chelsea have no option to recall the defender.

"Andreas fulfils everything we've seen in him. And we are delighted that we were able to take him on loan without any ifs and buts.

"I would welcome it if he were to stay here for a long time.”

John Terry looks to be heading for a Chelsea exit but the Blues are over-flowing with defensive cover and only signed American Matt Miazga in January.

Christensen knows competition for places will be fierce if he returns to Stamford Bridge and admits he may have to look at remaining in Germany if there is no room for him in west London.

“I am very happy," Christensen said. “I will give it my best in the two years here, and see what the future has in store for me.

“It's of no use to return [to Chelsea] if I don't get any playing time there. A lot can happen.”
