AFC Wimbledon are taking a look at former Crystal Palace starlet Ibby Akanbi.

The young forward impressed on trial this week by netting in a 3-1 victory for the club’s U21s at AFC Bournemouth.

Akanbi, who spent time at Grays Athletic during the back end of last season, scored the second goal of the game with a clinical finish against the Cherries.

First-team hopeful Ryan Sweeney also came through the full 90 minutes as he continues his rehabilitation from injury.

Kingsmeadow chief Neal Ardley is spoilt for choice up front this term and already has Lyle Taylor, Tom Elliott, Ade Azeez and Bayo Akinfenwa.

Wimbledon lost hot prospect Daniel Agyei when Burnley came calling in the summer but they did rake in an undisclosed transfer fee for the youngster.

Ardley also expects to have 17-year-old Christian Toonga available for selection once given the green light following a hold up in the club receiving paperwork from the Welsh FA.

George Oakley is another one in contention and is a proven goalscorer at U18s and U21s level.

But despite making his Football League debut as long ago as November 2014, Oakley may well have to settle for a development squad place for the majority of this campaign.

Wimbledon travel to Yeovil Town for a League Two fixture this Saturday.
