AFC Wimbledon have completed the signing of former Brentford defender Mark Phillips.

The towering centre-back arrives at Kingsmeadow on a free transfer from League Two rivals Southend United.

Phillips made more than 100 appearances for the Shrimpers, but finished the campaign on loan to Conference outfit Aldershot.

“Once we knew that Darren Jones was probably not going to stay due to family reasons we looked long and hard at our list," boss Neal Ardley told Dons Player.

"We went through the pros and cons of each player and we kept coming back to Mark. He’s very aggressive in both boxes, he knows the league and I know the character we are getting.

"We are really pleased and hopefully he can add to the quality, experienced centre halves that we’ve already got."

Phillips joins strikers Adebayo Akinfenwa and Matt Tubbs among the new recruits at Kingsmeadow this summer
