Neal Ardley has categorically denied that AFC Wimbledon are interested in signing former QPR and Fulham striker Bobby Zamora.

Reports had linked the two-time England international with a move to Kingsmeadow after his release from Brighton last season.

However, the Dons boss has categorically rubbished those suggestions, insisting he hasn't spoken to the veteran striker or his agent.

He said: “I've never had any conversation with Bobby Zamora or any representative of him so I know nothing about him.”

Ardley, though, is still looking for a striker and is working on completing a deal for trialist left back Sean Kelly.

He added: “We're trying to do two more. We wanted to get a left back in who can cover a couple of positions.

“We've been impressed with Sean Kelly who has been on trial so we're trying to sort something out for Sean.

“We think he can be a good addition to the squad. We're desperate for a centre forward. We're trying to get the quality we can add to the squad.

“I speak to a lot of managers and they're all looking at the same type of centre forward.”

Money, though, is an issue and the Dons have one of the smallest budgets in League One so, while Ardley would consider a loan, he is not prepared to gamble with the club's money.

He explained: “We've got what we think is decent money for us but now we're in the league higher so the player we're trying to get is another level on. We're realising our money is not as much as you think.

“If it's a loan, it's got to be someone who can make that impact and fit the way you play. A lot of the bigger clubs with the players you think can make a difference they want them to go higher and they're already on serious money.

“Some other clubs haven't got the type you want. Loans are a possibility. We don't want to take a gamble. We're in a tough league so we want to get it right.”
