Kelvin Bossman scored his first Hayes & Yeading goal to sink Basingstoke Town on Saturday.

Bossman, a former Town loanee saw straight red last week for foul and abusive language against Tonbridge Angels, and with his suspension not kicking in for two weeks he redeemed himself with the winner.

Basingstoke enjoyed possession early on but it was United that had the first clear-cut chance when Charlie Wassmer intercepted a pass and put Jake Reid through on goal on the right-hand side his strike was just wide of the left hand post.

Shortly after Jack Mills header brushed the bar, when he met a cross from the right edge of the Basingstoke penalty area.

Striker Manny Williams met a perfectly measured through ball in the United box but before he could pull the trigger an even better timed tackle by captain Dean Inman denied him a goalscoring opportunity.

It was a frustrating day for the home side as United defended strongly, stuck to their plan and counter-attacked with speed. As the game went on the better chances fell to Phil Babb’s men as they sensed a winner could come.

Bossman was introduced to the game on the hour and 10 minutes later Wassmer's neat footwork resulted in a shot which got blocked but Bossman pounced on the deflection and fired home the winner.
