Joel Lynch insists a new three-at-the-back defence will eventually work for QPR.

Not on the evidence of last Thursday's disappointing 2-1 defeat to Wolves in front of a live TV audience, fans might scoff.

But the defender bought from Huddersfield for £1.2 million in the summer begs to differ, especially as he has yet to get his boots properly under the table.

A series of niggles has limited Lynch to just 10 appearances in all competitions so far, but the 29-year-old believes he's starting to live up to expectation.

"I'm still not fully fit," he admitted.

Improving: Joel Lynch

"The injuries set me back and then I was playing at left back. It's coming together and hopefully I can keep improving. I feel I've got a lot more to give for all my team-mates and the fans.

"I've played in a back three for the last two teams.

"It takes movement for it to work and we're working on that in training, so hopefully we'll pick it up and it'll click for the lads. I think we're still a work in progress.

"But I don't think it should be that difficult as we're professional footballers.

"The three at the back has an extra man in midfield and is more attacking. I think we're getting more chances and we can look to win games whereas we were defensive before.

"We're not winning games, so we need to work on the training ground at what the manager wants us to do so we can keep improving."
