QPR’s boss admitted he wanted to hang on to Stephane Mbia - but the midfielder’s £45,000-a-week wages wouldn't allow it.

Instead, Harry Redknapp could only ruefully look on last night as Mbia’s cleverly back-heeled goal for Sevilla inched his loan club closer to the Europa League final.

Sevilla beat Valencia 2-0 in the first leg, and Rs manager reckoned the Cameroon international will be a catch for someone in the summer, with Liverpool and Everton favourites to sign the 27-year-old.

Harry added: “You’d like to have had him here. What a force he’d have been in the Championship, but we couldn’t keep him because of his wages.

“He’s a good player and it looks as if he will be playing for Seville in the final.”

However, the player who originally got QPR confused with Glasgow Rangers when he signed in the summer of 2012 will walk away as a free agent when his contract expires in June.
